LSI Logic Delivers the Industry's First ARM966E-S(TM) Synthesized Core To Reach 200MHz

MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 26 -- LSI Logic Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced the availability of the industry's first synthesized ARM® processor core to reach 200MHz. The ARM966E-S(TM) solution extends LSI Logic's broad library of CoreWare® products and supports the popular AMBA(TM) 2.0 AHB bus specification. The ARM966E-S core is targeted toward communication applications that need highly deterministic control and digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities, which include mass storage, next-generation digital cellular phones, and networking applications.

``LSI Logic is proud that we are the first to reach 200MHz with the ARM966E-S core because it seamlessly extends our ARM portfolio, and is a significant addition to our library of synthesized CoreWare macrocells,'' said Rafi Kedem, director of ARM CoreWare Marketing, LSI Logic. ``The speed increase and enhanced signal processing capabilities enable us to target an even wider range of high-volume applications while maintaining low power consumption, high performance and small die size.''

Based on the ARM9E-S(TM) core, the ARM966E-S solution is ideally suited for complex deterministic systems because the code size can fit into the tightly coupled instruction memory, leveraging the high-efficiency of the Thumb® instruction set, while utilizing its DSP capabilities. This allows a designer to concentrate on the application specific areas of their system while minimizing redesign efforts as memory requirements change.

Utilizing its Harvard memory architecture with its tightly coupled 0-wait state Instruction and Data memories, the ARM966E-S solution maximizes its performance with reduced power and area properties.

The ARM966E-S solution is available now and is offered on LSI Logic's G12(TM) 0.18 micron drawn CMOS technology.
